JOURNALISTS' ASSOCIATION OF SERBIA URGES UK GOVERNMENT NOT TO EXTRADITE ASSANGE TO U.S.

Journalists’ Association of Serbia (UNS) protests the arrest of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and urges the UK government not to extradite him to the United States. UNS calls upon the International Federation of Journalists and the European Federation of Journalists, and other organizations dealing with human rights and freedom of speech to insist that the UK government allows Assange safe passage to any country that would provide asylum to him.

Assange and WikiLeaks have made historic contributions to the right of people all over the world to learn the facts authorities have been hiding from them. UNS has consintently called for solidarity with Assange in the Serbian and international public, and on World Press Freedom Day in 2011 awarded Assange the “Zora” plaque for media freedom.

UNS is the largest journalistic association in Serbia and, formed in 1881, one of the oldest such associations in the world.
